Don’t panic - but scientists have just spotted weird ‘plasma tubes’ in the sky
An astronomer has detected giant plasma tubes encircling our planet like the tentacles of some evil space monster.
The weird tubes are wrapped around Earth high in the atmosphere, following Earth’s magnetic field lines.
A student at the University of Sydney used data from hi-tech radio telescopes to find the tubes and map them in 3D.
They’re up to 30 miles wide, and hundreds of miles long, and around 370 miles up.
What they are actually doing, though, is a mystery.
