Another journalist has fallen a victim of the overzealous police officers of the Ondo State Police Command after he was brutalized by the officers for carrying out his legitimate duties.
Victor
Akinkuolie, a reporter with the state-owned Hope Newspaper, reports
say, was set up by policemen from the Yaba Divisional Police Station in
the state and beaten to a state of comatose for daring to challenge a police patrol vehicle which was parked in the middle of the road, causing serious traffic.
The
victim who sources say has been a thorn in the flesh of the police for
exposing their various high handedness, fell into the trap set for him
by the officers who seized the opportunity to deal seriously with him
and beat him to a pulp.
Narrating his bitter
experience from his hospital bed where he is receiving treatment,
Akinkuolie said he went out in the morning only to see the
newly-distributed patrol vehicle of the station was parked in the middle
of the road and blocked a major highway.
The
media man said he immediately turned his vehicle and took another road,
but the police officers later trailed him to Idi-ishin area in the town,
where he was ordered by the police to come out of his vehicle.
He
added that immediately he alighted, the police officers, five in
number, beat him into comatose and it took the intervention of some
newspaper vendors in the area, who were watching, to come to his rescue.
